08/05/2022

It is with great sadness that the WEINIG Group reports the death of its long-time Chairman of the Executive Board, Mr. Wolfgang Wilmsen, who passed away at the age of 80. Wolfgang Wilmsen was Chairman of the WEINIG Executive Board from 1982 until his retirement in 2003.

Together with the partners Bertold Weinig and Georg Demuth, he developed the company into a successful enterprise operating on all continents immediately after joining the company. With his far-sighted, intelligent decisions and his unrelenting commitment, he led WEINIG to a reputation that is held in high regard by woodworking professionals around the globe today.

Those who were able to meet Mr. Wilmsen personally in the company will remember that being together with him was always an impressive experience. And for the younger generation, his name is still present in the factory halls, as well as the local and branch offices, and his work remains unforgotten.

"With his closeness to employees and customers, Wolfgang Wilmsen has left a lasting mark on the corporate culture at WEINIG. With his self-confidence and entrepreneurial foresight, he led WEINIG to unprecedented success and made it a global brand. At the same time, he always kept his down-to-earth attitude, which made a true German Mittelstand entrepreneur. It was a privilege for me to accompany his entrepreneurial journey over many years and to be his "sparring partner". His legacy is still very noticeable in the company and all of us at WEINIG feel obliged to it. Our thoughts are with his wife Karin and his family, especially in these difficult days," said Thomas Bach, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

We bid farewell to Wolfgang Wilmsen with deep respect for his lifetime achievement. We owe him a great deal and will always honor his memory.
